The Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah is the most revered shrine of Muslims not only in Rajasthan but in India also. The shrine is known as Ajmer Sharif, and it encapsulates the mortal remains of the famous Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Situated in the city of Ajmer in Rajasthan, this shrine is visited by people of all religions, cast, and creed.
The Dargah is a living example of Mughal Architecture and their faith. The daughter of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had established a prayer room, especially for the woman followers. It is believed that people who visit the shrine and pray with a pure heart and soul often get their wishes granted, and with his blessing they will be free from desolation.
The shrine was constructed by Mughal emperor Humayun, while subsequent rulers such as Akbar and Shah Jahan also built mosques in the complex. Moinuddin Chishti’s marble tomb lies at the center of the complex and is surrounded by a marble screen.
Traditional offerings include flowers, a ‘chadar’, and sweets. If you have time, make sure you attend a ‘qawwali’ (musical performance) at the dargah, usually held on every Thursday and Friday evening. These musical performances include verses sung in praise of the Prophet and various Sufi saints.
It is believed that a person who prays with a pure heart at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah gets all his or her wishes fulfilled. Ajmer Sharif is a Sufi shrine and one of the most visited places in Ajmer. The pious Persian Sufi saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, who is well-known for its secular preaching, is enshrined here. Many Muslims believe that Moinuddin Chisti was Muhammad’s direct descendant, and it was on his request (Muhammad came to his dream) he went to India. Mughal Emperor Humayun built his shrine, and to enter the dargah, you need to go through a series of massive doors made from silver with beautiful carvings.
